Roseanne Barr has had two TV series canceled in two days. On Monday, ABC Family announced it was pulling the plug on ”Domestic Goddess,” her cooking show that was set to debut on Sept. 20, because the star’s hysterectomy, scheduled for this week, had shut down production. On Tuesday, the Associated Press reports, ABC announced it was cancelling ”The Real Roseanne Show,” her reality backstage show about the creation of ”Goddess,” after airing just two episodes.
Not that ”Real Roseanne” was long for this world anyway, given its low ratings. ”We’re confident the audience would have grown, given time, but with ABC Family’s decision to cancel ‘Domestic Goddess’ due to Roseanne’s illness, the show’s dynamic shifted irrevocably,” said R.J. Cutler, who executive produced both series, in a statement. ”We are very sorry that it didn’t work out and we wish Roseanne the best and a speedy recovery.” ABC will fill ”Real Roseanne”’s Wednesday slot with reruns from some other blue-collar comedians’ sitcoms, ”The George Lopez Show” and ”The Drew Carey Show.”
