Well, you can understand the confusion. On Monday, reporters and paparazzi spotted Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez entering the Liberty County courthouse in Hinesville, Ga., near the home Affleck purchased in Savannah this spring. Apparently, the couple were there to get a gun license – not a marriage license – but their 90 minutes inside the building prompted speculation that despite the very public cancellation of their Sept. 14 wedding, the two were getting hitched after all.

”They were also asking where Mr. Affleck could get a pistol toter’s permit,” court clerk Barry Wilkes told Reuters. He said they did not get a marriage license. ”I just wanted to do some hunting,” deputy registrar Brooke Moran quoted Affleck as saying, according to the Associated Press.

Apparently, they also came to thank the local sheriff’s office for protecting them from the media hordes since Lopez’s arrival in Savannah on Friday. ”Ben came by with Jennifer to thank the Sheriff’s Department and tell them how happy they were for helping out with protecting them and securing his property over the weekend,” Sheriff Don Martin told the New York Daily News.

Still, just because they’ve been back together for a few days doesn’t mean they’ve rekindled their romance, a source close to the couple tells the New York Post. ”Jennifer gave Ben the ring back last week, before she showed up to Savannah,” the source said. The purpose of their weekend together was to ”conduct an exit interview and figure out what was going on.”
