The stars of Bravo’s summer smash, ”Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” have lots of surprises in store for their second season, not the least of which will be its location. Yes, America — hide your straight men, the Fab Five (a.k.a. Kyan Douglas, Thom Filicia, Jai Rodriguez, Carson Kressley, and Ted Allen) will be leaving New York City to take its show on the road. ”Rumor has it we’re going to be on the road, I don’t know exactly how many episodes,” says design demigod Filicia. ”I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I hope we get a Winnebago and I can decorate it! When I was a little kid I used to beg my mother and father to get a mobile home and they were like, ‘No we hate those.’ I was like, ‘Damn.”’
While no specific travel itinerary has been set, cuisine connoisseur Allen already has a vision of future missions: ”I would love to see a traveling show, I think it would be hilarious,” he said. ”’Queer Eye Chattanooga.’ ‘Queer Eye Miami.’ ‘Queer Eye Toronto…”’
Maybe their travels can coincide with a book tour. Although what their recently announced tome, “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy: The Fab 5’s Guide to Looking Better, Cooking Better, Dressing Better, Behaving Better, and Living Better” (due early 2004), will cover remains a mystery — even to its authors. ”Well, we knew we were working on a book deal,” Kressley admits, ”but we’ve been so busy working that none of us had time to sit down and talk about it. So I’m sure our agents know, but I don’t really know anything about it.” Kressley wasn’t the only one left in the closet. ”I think we’re the last ones spoken to,” says Rodriguez. ”How about that, is that fair? Like, they say, ‘you’re going there’ and we say, ‘Oh okay.”’ Neverthess, Filicia seems optimistic: ”I’m so excited about this opportunity to travel and get in touch with the American people, and make people a little better.” That is, if they don’t drive each other couture crazy.
