Britney Spears hasn’t become a Las Vegas showgirl yet, but she did stun patrons at the Palms casino with a surprise nightclub performance on Saturday night. Without advance notice, she treated some 1,800 patrons at Rain, the nightspot at the Palms, to a half-hour show, complete with backup dancers, in which she debuted three new songs from her forthcoming album, the Associated Press reports.

”We tried to keep it a secret,” said Rain co-owner Scott DeGraff of Spears’ 1 a.m. set. ”We wanted to make it a surprise for people. I know people were shocked. No one knew.” Except MTV, which had a crew on hand to film the show, whose audience was filled with celebrities in town for the Oscar De La Hoya-Shane Mosley boxing match. ”It was just a crazy night,” DeGraff said. ”The place was just mobbed.”

No word on when MTV will air the performance, or when the rest of us might get to hear these tunes. Spears announced Thursday that the Nov. 25 release date of her yet-untitled album had been postponed indefinitely. She issued a statement on her website, saying: ”The release date previously reported on this site and elsewhere was incorrect and we apologize for any confusion. We will let you know when a revised date is announced. Thanks for your understanding.”
