Just in case you thought the ”American Idol” singers have been a tad underexposed lately, Fox is building a holiday special around them and their new Christmas CD, ”American Idol — The Great Holiday Classics,” which hits stores on Tuesday. The special, ”American Idol: Christmas Songs,” will air Nov. 25, just barely squeaking in before the November ratings sweeps period ends the next night.

Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, Kelly Clarkson, Justin Guarini, and other ”Idol” favorites will appear on the one-hour program. Apparently not getting into the holiday spirit are Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson, and Ryan Seacrest, who are not expected to be on the show, according to the Hollywood Reporter. As usual, there will be a musical competition, but it won’t be among the ”Idol” singers, but between Fox and NBC, which is airing specials featuring Justin Timberlake and Shania Twain the same night.
