If you’re shooting a big-budget action epic where you need a hero to wield a sword or shoot an arrow, Orlando Bloom’s your man. Variety reports that the ”Lord of the Rings” and ”Pirates of the Caribbean” vet will star in ”Kingdom of Heaven,” the next battle saga from ”Gladiator” and ”Black Hawk Down” director Ridley Scott. Set during the medieval Crusades, ”Kingdom” will star Bloom as a peasant in 12th-century Europe who becomes a knight, saves a kingdom and falls in love with a princess in Jerusalem.

The 26-year-old British actor, who showed his archery skills as elf hero Legolas in the ”Rings” trilogy (he’ll be seen in ”Return of the King,” the final installment, in December) and in next spring’s ”Troy” (where he plays Paris, the warrior who discovers Brad Pitt’s Achilles’ heel), also has a ”Pirates” sequel on his plate. He’s due to start shooting ”Kingdom” in Morocco in January.
