”Coupling” has been singled out. Variety reports that NBC pulled the plug on the ailing sitcom on Friday, after airing just four episodes. The show about six randy singles, which the network had touted as the heir apparent to ”Friends” on Thursdays, was slammed by TV critics (even though its scripts were nearly verbatim copies of the British original series’ episodes) and ignored by viewers. The network said it would move ”Scrubs” from 8:30 to ”Coupling”’s 9:30 slot and air ”Friends” reruns at 8:30.
Like ”Coupling,” Rob Lowe’s new drama ”Lyon’s Den” and Alicia Silverstone’s ”Miss Match” have also been placed on hiatus during the November ratings sweeps months, though there’s still a slim chance NBC could bring those struggling shows back later.
