”The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” took one step closer to potential Oscar victory by winning the top prize at the Producers Guild Awards on Saturday, beating ”Mystic River,” ”The Last Samurai,” ”Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World,” and ”Seabiscuit.” In 10 of the award’s previous 14 years, the winner has gone on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Among the four TV awards given out by the producers, HBO won three. ”Six Feet Under” was named top drama series, while ”Sex in the City” took top comedy series honors, and ”My House in Umbria” was named best TV movie. The remaining award went to Bravo, whose ”Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” won kudos as Best Reality/Game/Informational Series. Now, if the Fab Five would only visit the hobbits for a Middle-earth makeover, that would be an unbeatable combination.
