Here’s one way to make a lot of money: write a book telling readers how to make a lot of money. That’s a lesson both Donald Trump and Random House (which published Trump’s bestseller ”The Art of the Deal” back at the height of the Gordon Gekko era in 1988) know well. The New York Post reports that Trump has a new deal with Random House for a spinoff book from his current hit reality show on NBC. Called, ”How To Get Rich: Lessons from ‘The Apprentice’ and Other Big Deals,” it’ll combine advice from Trump with a behind-the-scenes look at the show. The book will occupy real estate on bookstore shelves as soon as April, in time for the series finale.

That sounds soon, but Trump tells the Post that he and ghostwriter Meredith McIver have already completed 80 percent of the book. (Another Trump management lesson: delegate your workload.) Fittingly, the ”Art of the Deal” author did not use an agent but negotiated the book contract himself. Trump talked Random House into giving him an advance of more than $1 million, the Post reports, and reprinting ”Art of the Deal” as well. ”I can’t comment on the amount,” Random House editorial director Jonathan Karp told the Post, ”but he got exactly what he wanted, and by the end of the negotiation I needed oxygen.”
