Is Avril Lavigne the new Tiffany? Like the ’80s teen pop princess, Lavigne is planning a tour of shopping malls, USA Today reports. In a more contemporary vein, however, the appearances will be ”flash mob”-style events, seemingly spontaneous gatherings that originate with online invitations. The gigs will be announced via AOL (Keyword: City Guide) and local radio stations only 48 hours in advance, but we can tell you that the first one will be in Minneapolis on March 4. She’ll hit 21 cities over the next several weeks, wrapping in Dallas in mid-April.

On the unplugged tour, Lavigne will be accompanied by guitarist Evan Taubenfeld, who cowrote her new single ”Don’t Tell Me.” They’ll perform that song and two other tunes from her forthcoming album, ”Under My Skin” (due in stores May 25), as well as three hits from her multiplatinum 2002 debut, ”Let Go.” Afterwards, we imagine, she’ll hang with the skatepunks in the parking lot.
