MATTHEW METZGER, booted from Fox’s American Idol on Feb. 11
What went wrong? I guess I just let my nerves get to me. I know I didn’t sound great. When I looked back at my performance I cringed. Like, ”Oh, no!”
What do you think of Diana DeGarmo and Fantasia Barrino? I really thought they deserved to make it to the final 12. We all played Cranium before the show, and Diana was my partner, and we won, so I was really happy for her.
Are you preparing in case you’re called back for the wild card show? Oh, yeah, I’m going to work stinkin’ hard. I’m going to get in touch with my old glee-club director and work on getting a vocal coach and a performance coach to help me with stage presence.
Sounds like you’ve got a plan. Well, I gotta go back to substitute teaching next week so I can make some money. I’m poor!
CATIE ANDERSON, booted from UPN’s America’s Next Top Model on Feb. 17
What went wrong? The attention I got from the judges, I don’t think it was the right kind of attention. I’m glad I showed my emotions, but now I just know not to take things so personally.
Like when guest Simon Doonan called one of your outfits ”a little too much hooker”? I was so tired and so frustrated. I was just like, Come on. But that’s what I’m going to be dealing with in this industry.
When you watch the show, are you surprised to see how much you cried? I laugh my ass off. It’s good TV. I really had a wonderful time on the show. You just aren’t getting to see those times.
What do you want to do now? Something I’ve always dreamed of is doing voice-overs for cartoons. I always do the silliest voices, and I’m obsessed with Disney.
Do you think maybe a modeling show wasn’t the best way to accomplish that? To be really honest, whoever wants me, I’m ready to work.
TONY CALANDRA, booted from NBC’s Average Joe: Hawaii on Feb. 16
You were working hard to fight the tears. The last thing my friends said to me was ”Have fun, but don’t cry on TV.” So I’m glad to say that I didn’t. I almost did, though.
Did you want your painting back? No. After seeing it on TV, I’m not thrilled with it. I don’t even know if she still has it. Maybe it’s in NBC’s possession.
Were you freaked out when the boat started sinking? It was definitely a shock. People are commenting that I kind of grabbed the painting and left her to drown. That wasn’t the case. She was like, ”What about the painting?” and I said, ”I can grab it,” and I grabbed it, jumped in, and swam.
What’s the post-elimination bus ride like? It wasn’t a pleasant trip. I was with Cardo [Michael Cardamone] — I was lying down, looking up at the ceiling, and he’s like, ”Tony! Say something!” and I was like, ”I’m not in a talking mood right now, man.”
