Don’t get all verklempt, but Barbra Streisand is finally ending her long absence from the screen. After wooing her for two months, the producers of ”Meet the Fockers” have persuaded her to costar as Ben Stiller’s mom, Variety reports. In the long-awaited ”Meet the Parents” sequel, Stiller’s Greg Focker and fiancée Pam Byrnes (Teri Polo) will take his future in-laws (played again by Robert De Niro and Blythe Danner) to meet his folks, played by Streisand and Dustin Hoffman. (Spoiler: The meeting doesn’t go well.) The picture will mark Streisand’s first screen appearance since ”The Mirror Has Two Faces” eight years ago.
Jay Roach, who directed 2000’s ”Meet the Parents,” will also direct the sequel, making this the first Streisand film she hasn’t directed herself since 1987’s ”Nuts.” In fact, it’ll be the first Streisand movie in which she plays a supporting role. Roach will begin shooting ”Fockers” at the end of this month for a planned Dec. 22 release.
