At last, Courtney Love has found a sympathetic magazine interviewer: her 11-year-old daughter, Frances Bean Cobain. According to the New York Post, the May issue of Blender contains a frank mother-daughter chat, in which Frances says that Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction was more outrageous than her mom’s recent antics, including flashing David Letterman half a dozen times on her ”Late Show” appearance last month. ”Janet Jackson WAS inappropriate,” Frances Bean tells Love. ”But I’ve shown my [breasts] in front of people, honey,” Love replies. Answers Frances: ”But [what Janet did] was in front of CHILDREN.”

Elsewhere in the exchange, Love bemoans her current lack of a boyfriend. ”Sometimes, mommies need to get laid, too,” the ”America’s Sweetheart” rocker says. ”But Mommy,” the 11-year-old responds, ”you intimidate men!”

It’s not clear what effect the Blender article might have on Love’s current efforts to regain custody of the girl. Since the beginning of Love’s current round of legal woes that began with her arrests for disorderly conduct and drug possession in October (charges Love is also fighting in court), Frances Bean has been living with Wendy O’Connor, her grandmother and the mother of Love’s late husband, Kurt Cobain. (The interview’s release coincides with this week’s 10th anniversary of the Nirvana frontman’s suicide.) Love does show her motherly credentials in an aside to the Blender stylist picking out Frances Bean’s outfit. ”Just don’t make my daughter look like some 15-year-old trying to get backstage,” Love says. ”I know that look.”
