This art-punk behemoth of an album opens and closes with flourishes of rock classicism (the Nirvana-style thunderclap ”Up Against the Wall Motherf — -ers” and the horny Britpop homage ”Party the Baby Off”). But in between, Icarus Line reject songwriting convention in favor of guitar noise and self-immolating grooves. Radio programmers might end up throwing the disc at the studio wall in disgust, but avant-rock fiends should rejoice.
