Technology often promises to give us powers we never had before. So a couple of EW staff members – let’s call them Neil and Michael – decided to put one gadget to the test. Instead of just reviewing music, they MADE music, using a PlayStation 2 game, the MTV Music Generator 2. Then they took their creation to three genuine record labels to find out whether they’d be hailed as musical geniuses.

So this is where you come in. You can:

  • Get the back story: Find out how they did it (reprinted from the magazine’s bonus section Listen2This)
  • Listen to their three music samples (Note: Latest RealPlayer required):
  • 1. Crunk
    2. Dance
    3. Reggae

  • Be the critic: Review and grade what you've heard
