This time, J. Lo kept it on the down-low. In a casual ceremony in her own backyard that, unlike her aborted nuptials with Ben Affleck, managed to catch the paparazzi off guard and avoid becoming a media circus, Jennifer Lopez married fellow singer and actor Marc Anthony on Saturday. The surprise wedding was the third for Lopez and the second for Anthony, whose divorce from former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres became final earlier in the week.

People reports that Lopez’s guests thought they had been invited to a mere afternoon garden party. ”She didn’t hardly tell anyone. Everyone was surprised,” Us Weekly quoted a friend of the couple as saying. (In fact, at press time, neither Lopez’s reps nor Anthony’s have confirmed the nuptials.) According to People, witnesses saw a tent go up in Lopez’s backyard on Saturday, heard the strains of Vivaldi’s ”Four Seasons,” and saw Lopez enter the yard wearing a white gown and veil and Neil Lane jewelry and carrying a white umbrella. ”She looked beautiful,” a source told People. Besides Lopez’s mother Guadalupe, who arrived with Anthony, according to ”Entertainment Tonight,” it’s not clear who was among the 40 guests. ”It was a lovely low-key intimate affair for the closest friends and family,” another friend told Us.

Lopez, 33, and Anthony, 34, are both New York City-born singers of Puerto Rican heritage (he is, of course, one of the top-selling salsa singers of all time), and both have found some success in movies, she as a leading lady, he in bit parts in such films as Martin Scorsese’s ”Bringing Out the Dead” and the recent ”Man on Fire.” They first dated in 1999, months after her yearlong marriage to waiter Ojani Noa ended. She soon moved on to Sean Combs (who was still calling himself ”Puff Daddy” then), while Anthony married Torres in 2000. Lopez famously dumped Combs in early 2001 and soon took up with backup dancer Cris Judd, who became her second husband in September of that year. That union lasted nine months; shortly after filing for divorce, she began dating Affleck, her costar in the ill-fated films ”Gigli” and ”Jersey Girl.”

In mid-2002, around the time Lopez started seeing Affleck, Anthony and Torres separated, but they reconciled five months later and renewed their vows. (During their three years together, Anthony and Torres became parents of two sons; he also has a daughter from a previous relationship.) Nonetheless, the couple split for good in October 2003, not long after Affleck and Lopez called off their own wedding at the last minute, complaining of too much media intrusion. The couple known as Bennifer called it quits for good in early 2004, and not long after, Lopez was spotted on Anthony’s arm. Though reps for the entertainers never confirmed they were dating, by May, she was sporting a new diamond, having returned the pink one Affleck gave her. Anthony’s divorce from Torres became final on June 1, just four days before the surprise backyard wedding.
