We rate the ”Spider-Man 2” videogame

YOU PLAY AS… Peter Parker, the struggling college student who moonlights as the amazing Spider-Man

GAMING GOAL Win ”hero points” as you hurtle around a compressed version of Manhattan fighting thugs — and, of course, making calamari out of Doctor Octopus.

VOICE TALENT The main ”Spidey 2” players — Tobey Maguire (Peter), Alfred Molina (Doc Ock), and Kirsten Dunst (Mary Jane Watson) — all pipe up here. Plus, director Sam Raimi’s pal, B-movie king Bruce Campbell (”Evil Dead 2”), reprises his smart-ass narrator role from the first ”Spider-Man” game.

COOL MOVES Web-swinging is a more precise (and difficult) operation than in the previous Spidey game, allowing tricky mid-air double-flips that recreate the exhilaration of the movie’s swinging sequences. A Spider-sense feature lets you know when to dodge attacks, and versatile webs let you catch thieves just like flies.

JUST LIKE THE MOVIE? Kinda. In addition to some elements from the film (you deliver pizzas and try to get to Dr. Connors’ class), the game throws in countless new crime-fighting moments. Fave comic-book characters like the Black Cat and the Rhino horn in on the action, too.

BONUS POINTS A new, less linear format allows Spidey to swing as freely about Manhattan as Tommy Vercetti moves through Vice City. And a high crime rate means Spidey — and you — never get bored.

LOW POINTS The graphics haven’t progressed much from the first game, and a steep learning curve for web-swinging may be a sticking point for some.
