Why we can’t wait to see ”The Incredibles”
RELEASE DATE Nov. 5
WHY WE CAN’T WAIT When Pixar, the CGI studio with the impeccable track record (from ”Toy Story” to ”Finding Nemo”) teams up with Brad Bird, director of the unjustly neglected animated feature ”The Iron Giant,” that’s an exciting prospect.
THE PREMISE Legal woes have forced Bob Parr, a.k.a. Mr. Incredible (pictured left, voiced by ”Coach” alum Craig T. Nelson) and his family of superheroes into retirement. Still yearning for action, he occasionally goes out looking for trouble with his pal, Frozone (pictured right, voiced by Samuel L. Jackson). Then one day, the family is called back into service. But can Bob still fit into the old spandex?
SOURCE An original idea by writer/director Bird
THE BACK STORY Bird, who also once worked on ”The Simpsons,” knows from dysfunctional clans with doofus dads. Making the transition from hand-drawn to computer-generated animation was trickier, however, as he kept challenging Pixar’s wizards to create effects (like windblown hair) that computers still find difficult.
BURNING QUESTION Can these heroes stand up to a certain green ogre at the box office, or at the Oscars?
