The O.C.‘s new club, the Bait Shop — host to gigs by Seth- approved bands like Modest Mouse and the Walkmen — is the latest in the time-honored tube tradition of hangouts that give shows the excuse to have musical guests. Here, other TV hot spots and the acts who stopped by.

Beverly Hills, 90210

The place The Peach Pit After Dark Playlist Alt-rockers the Flaming Lips and the Cardigans; pop tarts Monica and Christina Aguilera; where-are-they now ’90s acts (Jade, Wild Orchid). I’m With the Band David directs the video for guest stars Powerman 5000 — featuring Donna writhing in skimpy clothing.

Ally McBeal

The place A nameless watering hole in Ally’s office building Playlist Artists you’d find on a Starbucks CD — Elton John, Tina Turner, Barry White, Macy Gray (plus house musician Vonda Shepard). I’m With the Band Ally wins a contest to sing backup for Turner; Sting serenades her on her birthday.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

The place The Bronze, Sunnydale’s all-ages club Playlist Indie acts like Cibo Matto, the Breeders, Aimee Mann; lesser-known bands like Darling Violetta and Nerf Herder (who composed the Buffy theme song). I’m With the Band Willow’s werewolf beau Oz’s band, Dingoes Ate My Baby, played a few gigs.

The place P3, the San Francisco club co-owned by the witchy Halliwell sisters Playlist Top 40 bands Barenaked Ladies, Goo Goo Dolls, Dishwalla, the Donnas. I’m With the Band One episode had the sisters battling Dishwalla’s manager, who’d made a pact with a demon in exchange for fame. Just another day in the music biz!
