Blame it on the Valium. On Wednesday, DMX pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment and driving under the influence, charges stemming from a road rage incident in June in a parking lot at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport. According to the Associated Press, the rapper (real name: Earl Simmons) acknowledged that he’d taken Valium before arriving at the airport. Authorities said he crashed his SUV through a toll gate, then claimed he was an FBI agent and tried to drag another driver from his parked car. DMX faced a potential seven years behind bars over the incident, but the court let him go free on a one-year conditional discharge. (Conditional, that is, on his staying out of legal trouble for the next year.) Co-defendant Jackie Hudgins also received a conditional discharge.

The other condition of the rapper’s sentence: He had to give up the SUV, a 1998 Ford Expedition. ”I?ve got 33 cars,” DMX told TV’s Celebrity Justice outside the Queens courthouse. ”But that was my first truck. I hope I can get my stereo out of there. I hope they don’t steal my remote controlled cars, like they stole my f—ing watch.” He was referring to a diamond-encrusted watch, which he said was worth $12,000, that he claims was stolen while he was detained by airport police. A spokesperson for the Port Authority, the agency that owns and operates the airport, denied to Celebrity Justice that the watch was in the agency’s possession, or that Port Authority police had taken it.
