Here’s one Trump-related project from which The Donald will not see any money, and to which he probably would rather not see his name attached. It’s ABC’s unauthorized biopic of the real estate mogul, to be based on Gwenda Blair’s book The Trumps: Three Generations That Built an Empire. ”Donald Trump is the American version of royalty,” ABC’s movies and miniseries vice president Quinn Taylor told the Hollywood Reporter. ”He’s probably one of the most fascinating and intriguing men certainly of my generation who has continually kept himself at the top of his game. That he was able to do it is worth exploring.”
ABC hopes to begin filming in March for an as-yet-unspecified airdate, though it has not yet cast an actor in the lead role. Taylor said the movie would cover the last 25 years or so of Trump’s life, though it would avoid mentioning his current success and popularity as star of The Apprentice, which airs on rival network NBC. That sounds akin to making a movie about New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady without mentioning his Super Bowl victories. Maybe the film will simply conclude with Trump’s recent wedding to model Melania Knauss, an event that typifies the austerity, modesty, and restraint that Trump is known for.
