Respecting the ‘Law’

EW, three words: Best. Cover. Ever. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor after seeing the issue with Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay smiling at me from my mailbox. I have been a hardcore Law & Order fan for years, but the underrated Special Victims Unit has long been my favorite. It’s the best drama on NBC, and it’s great to see it getting so much recognition this year, with Mariska’s Golden Globe win and the boosted ratings.

Thanks for the story on the Law & Order franchise (”The Really Long Arm of ‘Law”’). Your choice of the always engaging Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay is a godsend for all SVU fans. Now, if you could just do a follow-up, showcasing the wonderfully sardonic Richard Belzer, the savvy Ice-T, and the by-the-book Dann Florek, I’ll be in hog heaven.

When are the excuses for Vincent D’Onofrio going to stop? He overextended himself to the point of jeopardizing Criminal Intent. Dick Wolf has a show to protect, and I feel this is why he has brought in Chris Noth. When a celebrity puts too much on his plate, it’s unfair not only to the man who signs his paycheck but also to the rest of the cast and crew. I look forward to the presence of Chris Noth. He’ll add some much-needed spice to the series.

Judy the Obscure

I have to thank you for the lovely, though brief, article about Judy Greer (”Almost Famous”). It makes me happy that you at EW don’t fail to recognize those barely known talents who deserve such praise. Greer is comedic magic, and her character Kitty on Arrested Development (you know, that underappreciated television gift) is absolutely hilarious. I am so used to seeing Greer in that quirky persona that it took a bit of reading into the article before I realized who this lady was. The photograph of her is just gorgeous! Hopefully, that stunning lead part for her will arrive in the near future.

U2 of a Kind

Thank you for the fantastic display of Anton Corbijn’s photographs of U2 (”U2 Stuck in a Moment”)! Although I am still a teenager, I have loved them through the years, and it’s always interesting to learn something new or see a different side of them. While other rock groups fade out, U2 prevails.

Pill Talk

It was great to read Stephen King’s comments about the inordinate amount of prescription drug advertising in print and on television (”The Worst Ads on TV”). When a new drug comes out, it is important that doctors and pharmacists are made aware of it…in professional journals. This way the patients who can benefit from the drug can be targeted and treated properly. Drugs should not be hawked like the newest Coke formula.
