Ashlee Simpson: Let there be hype!

I’ll say this much for Ashlee Simpson: Girlfriend knows how to get her name in the papers. Getting ready to drop her sophomore CD in October (not to mention her film debut, Undiscovered, at month’s end), Jessica’s little sister has punched her relentless hype campaign into overdrive:

-While Ashlee told Billboard she’s in talks to host Saturday Night Live this season – in the hopes of erasing memories of her disastrous lip-synch flub on the show last October – NBC reps tell PopWatch they’re not confirming nothin’.

-Ashlee has decided to scrap ”L.O.V.E.” as the lead single from her new disc, instead going with ”Didn’t Steal Your Boyfriend.” She tells MTV.com the track is not a reference to rumors that she snared Wilmer Valderrama from Lindsay Lohan, yet the title conveniently conjures up that tabloid battle anyhow. Savvy!

-Lastly, Simpson’s changing the name of her second CD from In Another Life to I Am Me. Which recalls a great exchange from the hilarious Barbra Streisand-Ryan O’Neil comedy What’s Up Doc?: ”I am Hugh!” ”You are me?” ”No, I am Hugh!”
