If nothing else, the rise and fall and rise of Martha Stewart has given the domestic icon ample opportunity to prove that she has a sense of humor, and it’s on fine (if shaky) display in her new daily gabfest, Martha. Inaugural guest Marcia Cross, whose Desperate Housewives alter ego Bree is clearly a riff, gamely folded shirts and scrambled eggs under the hostess’ watch, but day 2 proved Stewart can do self-deprecating just fine: She, her audience, her guests, and her dogs all sported variations on that now-infamous prison-crocheted poncho. Despite her time in the pokey, her imperiousness still slips through (as when she asked, ”Are there potatoes in Tater Tots?”), and that stilted hurricane confab with a shockingly tolerable Elmo (yes, the Muppet) was plain weird. Overall, though, this is one addictive hour of frosty fun.
