HeadScratcher No. 18: It's Academic!

161034__foxx_l

161034__foxx_lOkay, so what do Clint Eastwood, Jamie Foxx (left, performing at the Grammy Jam in Los Angeles on Dec. 10), Rick Moranis, Sean Penn, and Ray Romano have in common?

“All five actors were slated to star in the ensemble movie Ray, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids to 21 Grams, Do You Feel Lucky?” snarked PopWatcher/wiseguy Scott Flanders. But no. “It’s not on IMDb,but how about www.grammy.com?” asked Prime Minister of Clever-Cleverland Wade Preston, who, along with Tyler McWatt, win this week’s Speed and Accuracy Award for responding correctly mere minutes after I posted the question.

There are no Kanye Wests among them, but yes, they were all nominated for Grammys last week, thus my hint that you would not find the answer on IMDb.com. Eastwood earned a nod for Best Score Soundtrack Album for Million Dollar Baby, for which he also earned a Best Director Oscar last March. Foxx nabbed a Best Male R&B Vocal Performance nomination for “Creepin’,” a track from So Amazing – An All Star Tribute to Luther Vandross. Moranis was honored for Best Comedy Album for The Agoraphobic Cowboy. A Best Spoken Word Album nomination went to Penn for his narration of Bob Dylan’s Chronicles – Volume One. Romano, too, was recognized for his reading of his own children’s book, Raymie, Dickie, and the Bean: Why I Love and Hate My Brothers.

In all, 21 of you got the correct answer. So, what I thought was a difficult question was no match for you scholars of the culture of pop. As always, you make me proud. Come back Friday for another round of Carrot and Stick.

Quite a few of you had me beaming, heeding my past pleas forspecificity in your answers. Others got the gist of the answer, butwere lacking in your responses, hence the two-tiered pyramid of love.
