The Big Bam

Genre: Nonfiction, Sports; Author: Leigh Montville; Publisher: Doubleday

Scouting Report
The former Sports Illustrated scribe updates the story of sport’s first and greatest superstar — Babe Ruth — for the SportsCenter generation.

”The Great Bellyache” of 1925, which sidelined Ruth for six weeks, was believed by many to be an STD.

Final Score
Montville fails to penetrate the haze surrounding Ruth’s obscure beginnings as the (biracial?) product of a Baltimore orphanage, but his rehashing of the legend is at least a fascinating snapshot of the era.
