Jessica Simpson: A cry for help

With the release today of A Public Affair, Jessica Simpson’s first post-Nick CD, I say it’s time she gets another divorce – from her dad. Papa/manager Joe Simpson also produced this disc, and judging by what we’ve already heard off of it, the former Baptist minister seems to have forgotten the commandment ”Thou shalt not steal.” Plus, I wonder about the religious bona fides of a dad who not only has his daughter record a song called ”Push the Tush” but also twiddles the knobs during the taping. 153756__jessica_l Jessica’s sudden bout of laryngitis that’s forced her to cancel all her promotional TV appearances this week suddenly seems like a cry for help.

Nevertheless, it’s obvious that Jessica Simpson has some powerful lungs, and she might actually prove a decent singer if she had some worthy material. Which she’s not going to get as long as her music keeps raiding VH1’s I Love the ’80s vault for inspiration, or as long as she has to keep singing tributes to the part of her anatomy that landed her the role of Daisy Duke. My advice: Run, Jessica, run!

What do you think? Are you digging Jessica’s new disc?
