“Was this question difficult? Neigh!” wrote reader Jeff Hyson, one of many of you who got this week’s question right. A lot of you figured out that what links the five actresses in question is that they all costarred with horses in movies. Besides Maria Bello, pictured, in the new release Flicka, there was Elizabeth Banks in Seabiscuit, Teri Garr in the Black Stallion movies, Scarlett Johansson in The Horse Whisperer, and Elisabeth Shue in Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story.
As always, I got a bigger kick out of the wrong answers. They’re all bottle blondes, some of you suggested. (Uh, could be. Only their hairdressers know for sure.) They all costarred with actors who’ve played Batman, some said. (I suppose, though in Bello’s case, you have to go to her brief TV stint opposite George Clooney on ER to make that work.) Said others: they’ve all played strippers. (Really? Looks like I’ve got a lot of catching up to do.)
A lot of you had burrs under your saddles from all these equine films. ”Call me crazy, but why do they still make these movies?,” asked Stephanie “I hate horse movies” Clark. “Even though I’m a girl, I haven’t seen one of them,” wrote Deitri Villarreal. “Do we really need a remake of everything?” asked Eliza McCall, no friend to Flicka. No, dear Eliza, we do not. And with that, we’ll send this week’s quiz to ride off into the sunset, save for a tip of the Stetson to those of you who displayed the most horse sense.
