We gave it an A-

One of the most famous examples of Italian neorealism — films dramatizing working-class life, often using amateur actors — Bicycle Thieves concerns a poor man whose stolen bicycle ruins not only his livelihood but his life, when he’s driven to desperate measures. EXTRAS The best is ”Working With De Sica,” containing a striking interview with Enzo Staiola (the protagonist’s son). Staiola, now middle-aged, had never acted, and is fascinating on his brush with stardom and De Sica’s methods of eliciting performances from nonprofessionals.
