Pocket Symphony

Genre: Electronic; Producer (group): Astralwerks; Status: In Season

In the nine years since this French duo Air debuted with the stunning Moon Safari, a blend of easy-listening and synthesizer grooves that soundtracked countless Urban Outfitters visits, they’ve only occasionally resurrected the bubbly melodies of that masterpiece. Pocket Symphony is meant as a return to the film-score sounds of Safari. Unfortunately, ”hummability” is missing from the formula, and disaffected vocals by Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker and the Divine Comedy’s Neil Hannon do little to enliven the monochromatic piano and minimalist arrangements.
