Second Grace: The Music of Nick Drake

Genre: Classical; Lead Performer: Christopher O'Riley

Pianist Christopher O’Riley has a style better suited to tackling the oeuvre of Radiohead — as he did on 2005’s Hold Me to This — than the songs of Nick Drake. To be fair, the British singer’s output has resisted most attempts at reinterpretation, and O’Riley is due credit for songs like ”Parasite” on which he succeeds in matching the airy material with beautiful performances. But on Second Grace: The Music of Nick Drake, complex arrangements often overwhelm, rather than serve, tracks like ”Pink Moon” and ”Northern Sky.”
