Play Dirty

Genre: Mystery and Thriller, Romance; Author: Sandra Brown; Publisher: Simon & Schuster

Cowboys quarterback Griff Burkett has just been released from jail — and his Adonis-like physique still shines. So powerhouse couple Foster and Laura Speakman, owners of SunSouth Airlines, offer him $600,000 to produce an heir for them (never mind that he’s a convicted felon). Turns out the husband’s an OCD-riddled paraplegic who prefers the reproductive transaction to occur ”the way God intended” — forcing the strangers into bed. Meanwhile, a corrupt investigator bent on terrorizing Burkett with unresolved crimes keeps him equally active out of the sack. Like the Speakmans’ over-the-top proposition, Sandra Brown’s loopy, Harlequin romance-fueled plot (”silky, wet, and sweet”) for Play Dirty is better left unexplored. C-
