Those the Brokes

Genre: Indie Rock

This U.K.-based quartet (composed of two brother-sister duos) continues to make joyful harmonies on album No. 2. Though sticky-sweet intonations about painful breakups can inch into cloying territory, the urgent guitars and moody violins backing up the Magic Numbers help even out the playing field on Those the Brokes — and harken back to the sort of tunes that wafted from a ’70s AM radio. That is, until you’re jarred into reality after hearing Romeo Stodart bust out banal lyrics like “This is a song/These are the words.” DOWNLOAD THIS: Keep It in the Pocket
