We gave it a B

Aphrodite has a phone-sex job, Apollo is bored, and big daddy Zeus languishes in bed watching Doctor Who on the telly in Gods Behaving Badly. The powers of the once-glamorous Greek deities have dwindled so much in the modern world that they are reduced to sharing a grotty London house. Then, prissy Artemis decides to bring in a maid, a sweet-natured human named Alice, and inadvertently uncorks a madcap narrative that includes a visit to the underworld, flying thunderbolts, unrequited love, and the temporary extinguishing of the sun. Marie Phillips’ writing is fizzy, her premise clever, and her first novel amusing — if not immortal. B
