DirecTV has opted to not order a second season of the soap opera Passions, which moved to the satellite TV provider in September after being canceled by NBC. DirecTV has ordered enough shows to keep the soap on the air through August, though starting in mid-January, it will cut back from four episodes a week to three. Production on the final episodes will start in February and wrap in March. However, production costs on the show have been significantly reduced, and there’s talk that it could find life elsewhere, like the cable channel Oxygen or as an Internet series. (Variety)
