(FROM VARIETY) ? HBO has greenlit a drama series based on Alexander McCall Smith’s book series The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. The pay channel is teaming with the Weinstein Company, the BBC, and filmmakers Anthony Minghella and Richard Curtis for the new show, which stars actor-singer Jill Scott as Precious Ramotswe, the proprietor of Botswana’s only femme-led detective agency. The cast also includes Anika Noni Rose as Ramotswe’s secretary and Lucien Msamati as Ramotswe’s love interest. Minghella recently finished shooting the two-hour pilot in Botswana, which HBO has ordered along with an additional 13 episodes. (Variety)
