(BILLBOARD.COM) — Nine Inch Nails surprised fans on Monday by posting a free download of an entire new album, titled The Slip, on NIN.com with a simple note from frontman Trent Reznor: ”Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years — this one’s on me.” The 10-song album is offered in various formats, including MP3, with no digital rights management (meaning the tracks can be freely shared). The group plans to release a hard-copy of the disc in stores in July. NIN manager Jim Guerino told Billboard.com that Reznor has been in a ”prolific phase and we didn’t want ‘business’ to get in the way of getting the art in the hands of the fans.” To get a download of The Slip, which comes complete with a PDF of artwork and lyrics, fans enter an e-mail address, where they are sent a link that provides access to the various formats.
