(FROM VARIETY) — Jimmy Kimmel will keep working the late shift at ABC for at least the next two years. The network has exercised an option to extend the run of Jimmy Kimmel Live! through 2010.

The show, which debuted in 2003 and has almost always trailed its bigger-name competitors in the ratings, has seen a surge in popularity recently. A pair of satirical music videos starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck that first aired on Kimmel became viral sensations and water cooler fodder earlier this year. More recently, the show’s post-NBA Finals installments, dubbed Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night, have attracted good buzz — and appearances by presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain. In the season just ended, Kimmel also beat its rival The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson in total viewers for the first time ever. (Variety)
