We gave it a B

Thirty years ago the Grateful Dead set up shop at the foot of the Great Pyramid, took in a lunar eclipse, and blew some Middle Eastern minds. Enervated vocals and 4/4 thumping eventually give way to freaky, jazzy explorations on Rocking the Cradle: Egypt 1978, not least of which are 14 minutes of ”Fire on the Mountain.” You’ll want to hide the attendant DVD from hippie-hating friends, though: Poor above-the-neck fashion choices include drummer Bill Kreutzmann’s turban and Jerry Garcia’s, uh, pigtails.
