Turns out there’s more to that mouthful of a title than meets the eye. Along with being the name of an obscure Ian Fleming short story, QUANTUM is the new SPECTRE-like organization James Bond will be battling in this latest ? 007 adventure. “The world Bond inhabits in this movie is a serious mess,” says Craig. ? “Everything around him is turned upside down. Everything he understood as being good turns out to be bad.” The plot picks up just an hour after the ending of Casino Royale, with Bond discovering that the mysterious Mr. White (Jesper Christensen), the guy he shot in the leg before the closing credits of the last film, is one tiny part of a global conspiracy with tentacles in Chile, Italy, Austria, and scads of other exotic Bondian locales.

As for what QUANTUM stands for, the acronym is apparently still under construction. “If you think of something, let us know,” jokes longtime Bond producer Barbara Broccoli.
OUR TWO CENTS A sequel is another first for the reinvented spy franchise — and very clever, Mr. Bond, given the $594 million that Casino Royale ended up grossing worldwide. Hiring Forster (The Kite Runner) as director may have been smart too, at least judging by the hiply shot action footage in the trailer. Best of all, it sounds like Bond’s theme song, which was mostly missing from Royale, may be making a jazzy comeback. 11/14
