Hours later, I am still moved by Craig Ferguson’s tribute to his dearly departed mother on last night’s show. My favorite late-night funnyman was so full of raw emotion during his first show since his mother died on Dec. 1 that sometimes I had to look away. It all felt so intimate. He couldn’t help but be a little funny and a bit of a wiseass, and even though we’ve seen him keep it real before instead of going for the easy joke (see his supportive comments during Britney Spears’ troubles), this was a something wholly different. As he said, The Late Late Show will return to business as usual tonight, but last night, it was all about a son’s heartbreak over the loss of his mother. Thank you for letting us in, Craig.
