We gave it a B+

Songs for Tibet — now available on CD for the first time — caused some controversy when it was offered digitally to athletes during the 2008 Olympics and subsequently blocked by the Chinese government, but the music is uniformly accessible: two discs’ worth of familiar songs with new acoustic arrangements from artists like Sting, Alanis Morissette, Regina Spektor, and Dave Matthews that settle in like a soft blanket. Soothing as it is, little here is indispensable, but grading on a good-cause curve, let’s bump it to a solid B+
