Sundance: Lionsgate set to snatch up 'The Winning Season'

Lionsgate is doing its share to continue the sales momentum of this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Sources tell EW that the company is closing a deal for North American and U.K. rights to The Winning Season from director Jim Strouse (Grace Is Gone). The film stars Sam Rockwell as as adult misfit brought on to coach a local girls’ basketball team. Other cast includes Emma Roberts, Rob Corddry, Shareeka Epps, and Emily Rios. It seems it was love at first sight for the Lionsgate team, who only saw the film Monday evening. This marks Lionsgate’s first purchase of the festival.
