Will First Dog Beanie Bo make Beanie Babies relevant again?

Bobeaniebabies

BobeaniebabiesA few months ago, Ty found themselves in the heat of a controversy after Michelle Obama criticized the company for offering Beanie Baby dolls inspired by first daughters Sasha and Malia (Ty opted to discontinue the dolls). The company, however, has bounced back again in an attempt to capitalize on another Obama family member: Bo. Good luck getting your hands on him, though: The toy sold out hours after it first debuted last week, and eBay sellers are already auctioning it off on the site, where the discontinued Sasha and Malia Beanie Babies are attracting bids up to $2,000.

Does all the hubbub over Bo’s bean-stuffed doppelganger mean that Beanie Babies might actually become (gasp!) relevant again? (After all, even Candy and Tori Spelling have taken to talking about their obsession with the toys lately.) As a ’90s nostalgic, I’m kind of hopeful that such a thing could happen, even if the Ty toys never really interested me in the first place. But do you find yourself suddenly caring about Beanie Babies? And do you wish you could have the entire Obama family in stuffed animal form?
