Bret Michaels broke nose, got stitches, from Tony Awards mishap

Bret Michaels' quickly infamous accident at last night's Tony Awards left the rocker with a broken nose and needing three stitches for a cut lip, reports the Associated Press. Michaels' rep Joann Mignano told the AP that the Poison front man, who was struck in the head by a set piece during the Tony Awards' opening number, is scheduled for a precautionary CAT scan because of a previous neck injury. Mignano also noted that Michaels was upbeat after his Tonys injury and said he did not “miss his mark,” as had been previously reported. The musician is set to join Def Leppard and Cheap Trick on a tour with Poison later this month.

UPDATE: Michaels' reps released a statement criticizing the Tonys for the way the incident was handled: “If everyone at the Tonys [was] aware that Bret missed his mark, then they should have been aware enough to stop the set piece from hitting him or at least slowed it down until he cleared the stage. I feel had this incident happened to Liza Minnelli, Dolly Parton or Elton John, the Tonys would have at least issued a letter of concern….In this situation Bret was not on his stage but was at the mercy of the Tonys. He was performing on the Tonys stage and had the reasonable expectation that that safety of the artist was a priority, and at no time did he do anything over-the-top or outlandish that would have put himself or others in a dangerous situation.”
