'Bruno' released in edited version for younger audiences in U.K.

Universal Pictures U.K. is releasing an edited version of Bruno meant for younger audiences to help boost box office, marking the first time two iterations of a film are out at the same time in England, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The “15”-rated edit, submitted to the British Board of Film Classification Monday, is 110 seconds shorter than the “18”-rated original. It eliminates three scenes with what is considered extreme sexual content: a montage of exaggerated sex between Bruno and his boyfriend, Bruno pretending to have oral sex with a dead person he contacts through a medium, and activity at a swingers’ party. Universal said many U.K. movie theaters “have reported turning away large numbers of under 18s keen to see the new film.”
