Eight Emmy categories taken off prime-time telecast

Based on a proposal submitted to the board of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on Wednesday night, eight out of 28 awards normally presented live during the annual Emmy Awards are being cut from the telecast, according to Variety. Those same eight awards will now be pre-recorded and then “time shifted” back into the live show, a decision that’s expected to get an angry response from writers, directors and producers of long-form programming –like cable and TV miniseries– as well as variety shows. This year’s Emmy Awards will air on CBS and are being produced by Don Mischer.
