Columbus Short: Rising star

After roles in ''Cadillac Records'' and ''Stomp the Yard,'' the actor hopes to break out in ''Armored''

How You Might Know Him: Short, 26, played crooner Little Walter in Cadillac Records and an underground street dancer in 2007’s Stomp the Yard.
His New Film: In Armored, he stars as an ex-Marine working for an armored transport firm who’s coerced by his co-workers (including Matt Dillon and Laurence Fishburne) into joining in on a heist to steal $ 42 million.
His Big Moment: Having made his name with music-oriented roles, Short was eager to try an action thriller. ”It’s like weight training,” he says. ”You go to the gym and hit 30-pound dumbbells — after a while you want to go to 40 because you want to be challenged.”
