Robin Wright Penn files for divorce

Robin Wright Penn has filed for divorce from Sean Penn, according to People. The papers, filed in Marin County, Calif. on Aug. 12, state that “both parties have already agreed to [shared] custody of their son Hopper Jack, 16, and that “the estranged couple have already agreed to division of all property.” The reason given for the split was “irreconcilable differences.”

The A-list couple, who had been together since 1989 and married in 1996, have had an up-and-down history of break-ups and make-ups. They have filed papers to initiate divorce on two other occasions. In June, Sean Penn reportedly dropped out of two big-ticket movie projects (MGM’s The Three Stooges and Universal/Imagine’s Cartel) to focus on his family life.

The couple first costarred in 1990’s State of Grace and have appeared in several movies together since then. Wright Penn was nominated for a Golden Globe for 1994’s Forrest Gump and Penn has been nominated for an Oscar five times and won twice, most recently for 2008’s Milk.
