Apple and Eminem publisher settle digital downloading lawsuit

According to the Associated Press, Eminem’s music publisher and Apple Inc. have settled a lawsuit in which the publisher contended the rapper’s label, Aftermath Records, was not authorized to distribute songs via iTunes, a deal that allegedly netted the label at least $4 million. Eight Mile Style LLC and a second plaintiff, Martin Affiliated LLC, claimed copyright violations on 93 songs, saying Apple also made at least $2.5 million through the unauthorized iTunes downloads. Although terms of the settlement are confidential, Eight Mile’s attorney told the AP, “The case was settled to the satisfaction of all parties.” Eminem did not testify.
